Lesson 10: Revealed Books (Asmani Kitabain)

Divine Books:

As a believer, it is must to believe in all prophets, and this is must to believe on the divine books too revealed to them. The books sent to prophets are the collection of divine teachings. Therefore, all divine books should be considered true and it is mandatory to believe in them. Allah says:

وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ (البقره:4)

Translation: And who believe in what has been revealed to you and In [the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel), etc.] which were sent down before You?

i. Names of famous divine books and prophets:

There are many divine books but 4 books are very famous among them.

Torah: It was revealed to Hazrat Musa

Żabur: It was reveled to Hazrat Dawood

Bible: It was revealed to Hazrat Isa

Holy Quran: It was revealed to Hazrat Muhammad

ii. Famous Sahaif (Scriptures) of some prophets

Some prophets received sahaif, (Scriptures) besides divine books. The names of some prophets among them are as:

  • Hazrat Adam

  • Hazrat Idress

  • Hazrat Ibrahim

  • Hazrat Musa

iii. Common traits of Revealed Books:

In all divine books, tauheed of Allah, His perfect attributes, His worship, belief in Risalat, belief in Akhirat and reward and punishment according to deeds were common.

iv. Cancellation of The books that were revealed before Quran:

In every age, there are different demands of time. Therefore, the laws of shariah in those books were separately given. The books sent later cancelled the laws given in previous books. Likewise, Quran. Cancelled all previous shariah and now it is must to acton commandments given in Quran and not on commandments given in previous revealed books. Believing in previous divine books means that those books were true books, and it was must to follow the laws given in them at their times. Now, Quranic commandments will be followed only.
